DAREWING COMICS™

Original Comics by Lisa Loucks-Christenson, a Best-Selling and Award-Winning Syndicated Comic Artist, Author, Illustrator, and Photographer

Lisa's first drawings date back to 1967. She and her sister illustrated their favorite stories using reams of discarded continuous paper that their father brought home from work. At age three, "Sleeping Beauty" became Lisa's first illustrated book that she created based on her favorite story. Her sister, Laurie, her first best friend, was five when she illustrated "Snow White" and shared her crayons with Lisa so she could work on her own illustrations for "Sleeping Beauty."

Lisa never forgot how her father came home from IBM that day and fawned over her illustrated version of the beloved classic. Lisa continued drawing, inside her school workbooks (some of those illustrations will be published in an upcoming autobiography), on napkins, on paper she cut into strips to make her own comics reels and her books.

Lisa loved creating her own "comic viewers" where she'd cut out comics and tape them together and tape them to pencils that were inserted into a snack-sized serial box. She'd turn the pencils to see her growing collection of homemade comics (and other comics she loved), across the open viewing screen she'd cut.

Over the years, Lisa honed her skills, creating comic art for other authors' books and publications. She also ventured into film making, photography, advertising, fulfillment, call center, ordering, stock and assignment photography, writing, reporting, investigative journalism, running a gallery, and a bookstore—and continued producing original comics.

One day, an old man walked into her bookstore and gallery and told her she should use her talents to make people laugh. That was the day she posted her first comics in her bookstore window: "Overheard On ... Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... a new comic, one for every day of the week." People from all over the world stopped to take a picture of her comics, buy one, or take selfies with her comics; some people even believed that her comic featured them.

One of her favorite comics involved an old lady passing by her door. She paused in the hallway to read her book signing poster. Lisa heard her say,  "Don't Eat Bees! That's some good advice!"

Lisa drew that experience into a comic, one that was published in the "Don't Eat Bees!" Exhibit in 2019, but will also be published in an expanded edition of Don't Eat Bees Art Book.

"Don't Eat Bees!" was an Amazon Hot New Release,  #1 Best-seller on Amazon in multiple categories, and won two major literary awards, two 2020 Royal Dragonfly SM Awards.

People coming to Rochester, Minnesota often face life-and-death situations; every day counts for them. Lisa's Comics: Over 2000+ Original Illustrations: (partial)

  • Don't Eat Bees!™ Comic - Syndicated and award-winning (plagiarized and brand-infringed upon by a Big Five publisher; they willfully infringed on over 10 of Lisa's images without compensation for additional usage while threatening legal action if she sued them). In 2025, Lisa is suing the publisher, author, illustrator, and others involved.
  • Bow Wow Detectives™ - Infringed upon by a theme park in India that harassed Lisa and stole her brand associated with her #1 best-selling book "Saliva Smirk's Summer Camp for Dogs!" They applied for a trademark when her book hit #1 but failed to obtain one. A playwright from Wisconsin ran a smear campaign against Lisa after she sent him a cease-and-desist regarding his award-winning play that used her federally registered trademark "Bow Wow Detectives®."
  • Politically Pawsed™ - Published one comic featuring the voices of animals; the first comic features President Joe Biden's dog begging for another chance. He encounters Dale and Ibby—characters from Lisa Loucks-Christenson's double award-winning 2020 Royal Dragonfly SM Awards for "Don't Eat Bees!" The comic panel is available exclusively at Lisa's bookstores.
  • Courtly Cottontails™ - Syndicated (1000+ illustrations). This comic follows sibling cottontails on their journey and includes themed books such as "Our First Christmas," "The Winter Coat," "Mending the Broken Heart," among others. A new book titled "Politically, We're All Ears!" will launch in 2025 covering both the 2020 and 2024 Presidential elections. Individual comic art panels are sold in Lisa's store.
  • Toads of Telemark™ - A syndicated Christian comic featuring Jessica Duke Film Star and Jasper Train. Jasper dies in the first pages but is given the choice to return to be with Jessica if he promises to spread God's word. This popular comic includes Bible verses and real-life situations. One example is while issuing cease-and-desist notices to publishers attempting to take over her "Don't Eat Bees!" award-winning books.
  • Starlingo™ - A Christian comic about a real starling rescue featuring Lisa as the one who saved it; this journey is told in comic style.
  • Redneck Woods™

  • Hallowink Hollow™ - Comprising 15 books with 400 original illustrations. The first book "Hallowink Hollow Halloween Party" was a 2017 collection of Lisa's sketches for an art challenge called "Inktober." She decided to create a comic book series released every October through Amazon; the first five books became best-sellers there. Unfortunately, this book was stolen and posted on a subscription-based site where it garnered over 1000 reviews before Lisa caught up with them; she and her publisher lost all revenues from this theft.

More comics are set for release in 2025. Commissions are possible as time allows; however, Lisa remains focused on creating art and writing for all of her series—comics, children's books, and more—so her time is extremely limited. All of Lisa's comics are inspired by her imagination as well as encounters with pets and wildlife throughout life.
