DAREWING COMICS™ Original Comics by Lisa Loucks-Christenson, a Best-Selling and Award-Winning Syndicated Comic Artist, Author, Illustrator, and Photographer Lisa's first drawings date back to 1967. She and her sister illustrated their favorite stories using reams of discarded continuous paper that their father brought home from work. At age three, "Sleeping Beauty" became Lisa's first illustrated book that she created based on her favorite story. Her sister, Laurie, her first best friend, was five when she illustrated "Snow White" and shared her crayons with Lisa so she could work on her own illustrations for "Sleeping Beauty." Lisa never forgot how her father came home from IBM that day and fawned over her illustrated version of the beloved classic. Lisa continued drawing, inside her school workbooks (some of those illustrations will be published in an upcoming autobiography), on napkins, on paper she cut into strips to make her own comics reels and her books. Lisa loved creating her own "comic viewers" where she'd cut out comics and tape them together and tape them to pencils that were inserted into a snack-sized serial box. She'd turn the pencils to see her growing collection of homemade comics (and other comics she loved), across the open viewing screen she'd cut. Over the years, Lisa honed her skills, creating comic art for other authors' books and publications. She also ventured into film making, photography, advertising, fulfillment, call center, ordering, stock and assignment photography, writing, reporting, investigative journalism, running a gallery, and a bookstore—and continued producing original comics. One day, an old man walked into her bookstore and gallery and told her she should use her talents to make people laugh. That was the day she posted her first comics in her bookstore window: "Overheard On ... Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... a new comic, one for every day of the week." People from all over the world stopped to take a picture of her comics, buy one, or take selfies with her comics; some people even believed that her comic featured them. One of her favorite comics involved an old lady passing by her door. She paused in the hallway to read her book signing poster. Lisa heard her say, "Don't Eat Bees! That's some good advice!" Lisa drew that experience into a comic, one that was published in the "Don't Eat Bees!" Exhibit in 2019, but will also be published in an expanded edition of Don't Eat Bees Art Book.
People coming to Rochester, Minnesota often face life-and-death situations; every day counts for them. More comics are set for release in 2025. Commissions are possible as time allows; however, Lisa remains focused on creating art and writing for all of her series—comics, children's books, and more—so her time is extremely limited.
